R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Ginny Levenback and Dr. Charles Levenback have |
|
greatly distinguished themselves through their long record of |
|
dedicated service to the citizens of Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ginny Levenback worked for 20 years as a corporate |
|
transactional and regulatory attorney at the United Gas Pipeline |
|
Company and Williams; in 2005, she founded Levenback & Associates, |
|
where she acted as general counsel for two start-up companies and |
|
handled legal matters including mediation, entertainment law, |
|
contract drafting and negotiation, real estate, and Holocaust-era |
|
restitution claims; a cancer survivor, she currently works as a |
|
coach for individuals facing personal and professional transitions |
|
and serves on the leadership team at Unity of Houston; she is a |
|
graduate of St. Lawrence University, The University of Texas School |
|
of Law, and the Center for Houston's Future Leadership Forum; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Dr. Levenback served as |
|
a gynecological oncologist at The University of Texas MD Anderson |
|
Cancer Center, and he also held administrative roles such as chief |
|
quality officer and chief professionalism officer; over the course |
|
of his career, he pioneered sentinel node biopsy in women with |
|
gynecologic cancer; a world-class oncologist, he earned an |
|
unparalleled reputation for his bedside manner, and he helped one |
|
cancer patient launch a campaign to obtain an experimental drug |
|
that was considered safe for use; he and his wife formed a skilled |
|
and supportive team who worked together to help countless patients; |
|
a graduate of McGill University, Dr. Levenback attended Albert |
|
Einstein College of Medicine, and he also studied at the Icahn |
|
School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering |
|
Cancer Center; and |
|
WHEREAS, Native New Yorkers, the Levenbacks are longtime |
|
residents of the Bayou City, and they take great pride in their two |
|
sons, Sam and Ben, their daughter-in-law, Melissa, and their |
|
grandson, Simon; they volunteer at a local public school and are |
|
valued supporters of Houston's professional sports teams; |
|
partnering with one of Dr. Levenback's patients, the couple |
|
established the Levenback Family Endowment Fund at Holocaust Museum |
|
Houston, which will generate income to support changing |
|
exhibitions, archival preservations, and social justice |
|
educational activities; the museum also received an important |
|
collection of documents, furniture, art, and photographs from the |
|
Levenback family; Dr. Levenback's mother, Hedwig Basch Levenback, |
|
was one of 10,000 Jewish children evacuated from Germany and |
|
Austria to England on the Kindertransport, and the donation became |
|
the core of the museum's Uprooted exhibit in 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from |
|
individuals such as Ginny and Charles Levenback, whose generosity |
|
and civic engagement have made a positive and lasting difference in |
|
Houston; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Ginny Levenback and Dr. Charles Levenback |
|
for their contributions to the Houston community and extend to them |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Levenback as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
