R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Turning Point has made a positive impact in the |
|
Dallas and Plano areas through its service to survivors of sexual |
|
violence; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1982, The Turning Point provides |
|
support to clients in the form of counseling, education, and |
|
advocacy and works to promote broader social change with the goal of |
|
preventing sexual violence, bullying, and sexual harassment; in |
|
addition, the organization operates Courtney's Safe Place, a free |
|
clinic that offers forensic exams, evidence collection, and other |
|
resources for survivors in the aftermath of a sexual assault; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2022, The Turning Point conducted 472 forensic |
|
exams, responded to nearly 1,700 crisis hotline calls, provided |
|
4,000 counseling sessions, and accompanied hundreds of clients to |
|
medical appointments and legal proceedings; the group also offers |
|
educational programs for schools, colleges, and the wider |
|
community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, The Turning Point has helped |
|
countless survivors on the path to hope and healing, and all those |
|
associated with this outstanding organization are to be commended |
|
for their commitment to addressing a vital community need; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor The Turning Point for its work in behalf of |
|
survivors of sexual violence and extend to the organization sincere |
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for The Turning Point as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
