R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Douglas Brinkley, a history professor at Rice |
|
University, won in the Best Latin Jazz Album category at the 65th |
|
annual Grammy Awards on February 5, 2023, in Los Angeles; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brinkley received this prestigious accolade for |
|
his work as a coproducer on Fandango at the Wall in New York by |
|
Arturo O'Farrill and The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, featuring the |
|
Conga Patria Son Jarocho Collective; in addition, he received a |
|
second Grammy nomination in the Best Spoken Word Poetry Album |
|
category for Black Men Are Precious, an Ethelbert Miller album he |
|
coproduced; he previously won a Grammy for producing the Ted Nash |
|
album, Presidential Suite: Eight Variations on Freedom, and he was |
|
nominated for another for his collaboration on the soundtrack of |
|
the documentary Gonzo; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Katherine Tsanoff Brown Professor in Humanities |
|
at Rice University, Mr. Brinkley has also served as a presidential |
|
historian for CNN and the New-York Historical Society and as a |
|
contributing editor for Vanity Fair; his published works include |
|
seven New York Times bestselling books, and he has received such |
|
honors as the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Book Award; he sits on |
|
the boards of Brevard College and the Franklin D. Roosevelt |
|
Presidential Library, and he is a member of the Century Association |
|
and the James Madison Council of the Library of Congress; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brinkley holds a bachelor's degree in U.S. |
|
history from The Ohio State University, and he went on to study U.S. |
|
diplomatic history at Georgetown University, where he earned his |
|
master's degree as well as his doctorate; he also spent a semester |
|
at Oxford University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his skill as a producer, Douglas Brinkley |
|
has made valuable contributions to the music industry, and he is |
|
indeed deserving of this most recent honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Douglas Brinkley on winning a 2023 |
|
Grammy Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Brinkley as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
