R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
those saddened by the passing of Wayne Smith Johnston of |
|
San Antonio on July 14, 2022, at the age of 77; and |
|
WHEREAS, Wayne Johnston was born in Port Arthur on January 5, |
|
1945, to Lottie and John Johnston Jr.; he grew up on a ranch in |
|
Harper with the companionship of two brothers, John and Richard, |
|
and he graduated from Tivy High School in 1963; shortly thereafter, |
|
he met his future wife, the former "Sue" Cunningham, on a blind date |
|
at Crider's in Hunt, and the couple continued their relationship |
|
even after he was drafted and deployed to Germany during the Vietnam |
|
War in 1966; they married on November 7, 1968, and went on to share |
|
more than five decades together; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Johnston and |
|
his wife moved to Lubbock, and in 1972, he graduated from Texas Tech |
|
University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural agronomy; the |
|
couple then moved to San Antonio, where he owned a tractor |
|
dealership for several years and enjoyed a long and rewarding |
|
career in agricultural sales; and |
|
WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Johnston treasured the time |
|
spent with his family, and he took great pride in his children, |
|
Jamie Lynn and Wayne Bryson, and his grandchildren, Jack and |
|
Benton; he was an active member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, |
|
where he served as an elder and deacon for many years; in his |
|
leisure time, he enjoyed going on family vacations, hunting, |
|
fishing, and cheering on the Red Raiders football team; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for his devotion to his family and his |
|
generosity of spirit, Wayne Johnston enriched the lives of all who |
|
knew him, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Wayne Smith Johnston |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and to |
|
his friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wayne |
|
Johnston. |
