R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Parker County Sheriff's Posse is celebrating the
  75th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Established in Weatherford in 1947, the posse
  adopted a charter outlining such goals as preserving traditions of
  the Old West, promoting good sportsmanship, good horsemanship, and
  civic engagement, and assisting the county sheriff; membership
  quickly grew from 20 to 60, and the group held its first parade on
  opening day of the 1947 Fort Worth Fat Stock Show; in addition, the
  posse participated in several rodeos that year; it purchased 37
  acres of land, and riders with stout lariats cleared away post oak,
  mesquite, and an abandoned peach orchard; the clubhouse was
  completed the following year, and the site has served as
  headquarters ever since; and
         WHEREAS, The posse formed an early affiliation with the
  National Cutting Horse Association; after building an arena, which
  would host the Frontier Days Rodeo and the area's first FFA Junior
  Rodeo, PCSP continued to expand and improve its facilities; the
  organization launched its annual trail ride to Mineral Wells in
  1961; over the years, the posse participated in events across the
  state and beyond, including the Battle of Flowers Parade in
  San Antonio, the Texas State Fair in Dallas, the State Fair of
  Louisiana in Shreveport, and the inaugural parade for Governor Mark
  White; members brought home numerous trophies, among them three
  first-place wins during the 50th anniversary year; and
         WHEREAS, In 2006, the posse's Ranch Rodeo proved a tremendous
  success, and it became an annual event; the next decade brought
  invitations to the prestigious Frontier Days parade in Cheyenne,
  Wyoming, where PCSP twice won the Outstanding Mounted Riding Group
  award; as its activities have expanded in recent years, it has also
  benefited a number of worthy causes, showing support for the
  families of fallen officers, wounded warriors, and children in
  need, as well as the Parker County Livestock Improvement
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of its long history, the Parker
  County Sheriff's Posse has brought the community together for a
  host of memorable events and proudly represented Western heritage
  in venues far and wide, and its continued existence is a tribute to
  the great dedication of its members, past and present; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Parker County Sheriff's Posse
  on its 75th anniversary and extend to the members sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
