R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Evelyn Tang, an assistant professor of physics
  and astronomy at Rice University, is the recipient of a 2022 CAREER
  Award from the Faculty Early Career Development Program of the
  National Science Foundation; and
         WHEREAS, Among the most prestigious honors conferred by NSF,
  CAREER Awards include five-year grants to support early-career
  faculty who exemplify the highest ideals of their profession and
  who work to advance their organization's mission; each year, NSF
  presents only about 500 awards across all disciplines; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Tang was selected to receive a five-year award
  of $650,000 for her research investigating topological invariants
  and how they apply to biological systems, as well as synthetic
  materials that mimic them, to better understand how and why life is
  so robust; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the Center for Theoretical Biological
  Physics at Rice, Dr. Tang joined the university's faculty in 2021;
  she holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a master's
  degree from the University of Cambridge, and she received her
  doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology;
  previously, she was a group leader at the Max Planck Institute for
  Dynamics and Self-Organization as well as a postdoctoral fellow at
  the University of Pennsylvania; she is the recipient of a Scialog
  award, a Simons-Berkeley Research Fellowship, and a Gates Cambridge
  scholarship; and
         WHEREAS, Through her outstanding work at Rice University,
  Evelyn Tang has distinguished herself as an inspiring leader and an
  innovative researcher, and she may reflect with pride on this
  well-deserved recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Evelyn Tang on receiving a 2022
  CAREER Award from the Faculty Early Career Development Program of
  the National Science Foundation and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Tang as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
