R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Students and faculty from the Lamar Middle School
  AVID program in the Lewisville Independent School District are
  visiting the Texas Capitol on April 21, 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Coach Maria Samantha
  Montano, eighth-grade students at Lamar Middle have completed more
  than 200 hours of community service as part of the Advancement Via
  Individual Determination program, a global nonprofit organization
  that focuses on promoting college readiness and developing study
  skills, critical thinking, and literacy; Lamar Middle participants
  meet every other day for 90 minutes, which includes a tutoring
  session to help identify problem-solving strategies; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to their visit to the State Capitol,
  these outstanding young Texans are touring The University of Texas
  at Austin campus; the students have previously toured Texas Woman's
  University, and they have participated in an AVID Leadership
  Conference at American Airlines Center; and
         WHEREAS, Lamar Middle School has demonstrated a strong
  commitment to supporting academic excellence and college
  readiness, and participants in its AVID program may take great
  pride in their achievements as they look forward to a future bright
  with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the Lamar Middle School AVID program
  and extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Lamar Middle School AVID program as an expression
  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
