R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The City of Cockrell Hill is holding a
  ribbon-cutting ceremony for Stevie Ray Vaughan Park on April 22,
  2023; and
         WHEREAS, The park is named for Texas guitar legend Stevie Ray
  Vaughan, who was born in Dallas in 1954 and grew up in the Oak
  Cliff-Cockrell Hill area; he began playing in bands when he was a
  student in junior high school, and he moved to Austin at age 17 to
  pursue his musical career; his rise to international stardom
  commenced in the early 1980s, and he went on to become one of the
  most influential rock and blues guitarists of all time; and
         WHEREAS, In 2015, the City of Cockrell Hill acquired the land
  of the old Hill Theater, where Mr. Vaughan had made his public debut
  in 1965; community leaders set about creating a public space to pay
  tribute to the musician and to provide a location for local artists
  to showcase their talents; the park features a stage, lawn seating,
  and a walkway set beneath large shade trees; paintings of
  Mr. Vaughan by local muralist Steve Hunter pay homage to the
  beloved six-string virtuoso; and
         WHEREAS, Stevie Ray Vaughan Park will serve as a popular
  entertainment and recreation destination for area residents for
  many years to come, and it is indeed a pleasure to celebrate the
  opening of this outstanding community resource; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for
  Stevie Ray Vaughan Park in Cockrell Hill and commend all those who
  helped bring this project to fruition; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the City of Cockrell Hill as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
