R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The city of Cleburne lost an admired community
  leader with the passing of Marvin Ronald Layland on April 2, 2023,
  at the age of 78; and
         WHEREAS, Ron Layland was born in Cleburne on August 18, 1944,
  to Daisy and Marvin Layland, and he grew up with the companionship
  of three siblings, William, Charles, and Mary; he attended
  Southwestern Junior College, Fort Worth College, and Tarrant County
  Junior College and earned associate's degrees in electronics and
  management; and
         WHEREAS, A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Layland owned a
  number of businesses over the years, including Layland LP Gas
  Company in Cleburne, La Media Sportsman's Lodge in South Texas, and
  North Star Fishing Resort in Alaska, as well as El Caballo
  Bayo/Laylo's Lounge and La Posada De Creel Hotel in Mexico; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Layland also gave generously of his time and
  talents to numerous civic organizations and institutions, such as
  Meals on Wheels North Central Texas, the Cleburne Chamber of
  Commerce, Cleburne Community Education, the Layland Museum, and the
  Cleburne Railroad Museum; in addition, he was a dedicated member of
  the Cleburne Lions Club, where he served as president, spearheaded
  several community projects and fundraisers, and earned a perfect
  46-year attendance record; he was also highly active in Lions
  District 2-E2, the Lions Clubs of Texas, and Lions Clubs
  International; moreover, he was a valued member of Cleburne First
  Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as head deacon; and
         WHEREAS, In recognition of his many contributions,
  Mr. Layland was named Lion of the Year and Texas Lions Foundation
  Fellow, and he received the Founders Tribute Award, the
  International Leadership Award, and the Cleburne Chamber of
  Commerce Wall of Fame Award, among others; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Layland enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife, Mary Alice, and he took great pride in his
  children, Marty and Tina, as well as in his stepdaughter, Dawn, and
  his granddaughter, Kendra; and
         WHEREAS, The life of Ron Layland stands as an outstanding
  example of civic engagement, and he leaves behind a record of
  service that will long be remembered; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Marvin Ronald Layland
  and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ron
  Layland.
