R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The girls' varsity basketball team from Saint Mary's
  Hall in San Antonio enjoyed an outstanding 2022-2023 season,
  claiming the district championship and advancing to the Texas
  Association of Private and Parochial Schools state tournament for
  the first time in the program's history; and
         WHEREAS, During the regular season, the Barons finished 25-8
  and went 12-2 against their league rivals; on February 9, the squad
  defeated Victoria St. Joseph High School 74-39 to claim the
  school's inaugural District 4-5A basketball crown; and
         WHEREAS, After a bye in the first round, Saint Mary's Hall
  opened the state playoffs by defeating Fort Bend Christian Academy,
  and the Barons went on to triumph over San Antonio Christian School
  to punch their ticket to the state tournament in Waco; in the 5A
  semifinal, they matched up against a talented team from Houston
  Second Baptist School; the Saint Mary's Hall players put forth an
  exceptional effort but saw their memorable season come to an end,
  posting a final record of 27 wins and 9 losses; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the year, the Barons received valuable
  contributions from each member of the roster: freshmen Kathryn
  Tubb, Eleanor Pulis, Bianca Rodriguez, Isabella "Beya" Chase, and
  Maddie Florence, sophomores Emily Ton, Saviandra Trevino, and
  Natalia Chapa, juniors Anna Vaquiax, Blue Gomez, Abby Winter, Pinky
  Gomez, and Jay Vasan, and seniors Luz Chapa and Julia Garcia; these
  determined student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Matt
  Hayes and assistant coach Makayla Mabry, and the players received
  vital support from Luz Chapa and Natalia Chapa in their roles as
  team managers; and
         WHEREAS, The Barons' success is a source of great pride to the
  entire Saint Mary's Hall community, including students Francesca
  Fischer, Form 8, and Camilla Fischer, Form 6, the daughters of State
  Representative Trey Martinez Fischer, and they join with their
  classmates in offering special congratulations to the varsity
  squad; and
         WHEREAS, Excelling through determination and hard work, the
  Saint Mary's Hall Barons have established a new level of
  achievement for the school's basketball program, and they are
  indeed deserving of recognition for a job well done; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Saint Mary's Hall girls'
  varsity basketball team on a successful 2022-2023 season and extend
  to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the
  future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Barons as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
