R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Fashion designer Chloe Dao of Houston has |
|
|
distinguished herself through her accomplishments as the owner of |
|
|
the Dao Chloe Dao boutique as well as through her contributions to |
|
|
the community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, Ms. Dao graduated from the |
|
|
Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City; in 2000, she |
|
|
returned to her hometown to establish the Dao Chloe Dao Boutique, |
|
|
which was formerly known as Lot 8, in the Rice Village shopping |
|
|
district; she went on to open a pop-up location for the boutique in |
|
|
the Heights neighborhood in 2021, and she closed the store's |
|
|
original location in February 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Dao gained international acclaim after winning |
|
|
Project Runway Season 2 in 2006; over the years, she has partnered |
|
|
with businesses such as Nuo Tech and QVC, and in 2008, she created a |
|
|
line of travel and technology accessories; in addition, she was |
|
|
selected to design a special dress for the Crazy Rich Asians |
|
|
premiere at the Austin Asian American Film Festival; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Ms. Dao has designed a |
|
|
number of clothing items to benefit charitable organizations in |
|
|
Houston, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her staff made |
|
|
and donated thousands of masks to medical professionals as well as |
|
|
to the general public; she also serves on the fashion advisory |
|
|
boards at Houston Community College and The Art Institute of |
|
|
Houston, and since 2019, she has cohosted the annual Houston |
|
|
Designer Platform, which showcases the work of local designers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through her talent, creativity, and |
|
|
entrepreneurship, Chloe Dao has earned the respect and admiration |
|
|
of innumerable people over the course of her career in the fashion |
|
|
industry, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing her for the |
|
|
positive impact she has made in the Houston community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Chloe Dao for her professional and civic |
|
|
achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Dao as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
