R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The modern state of Israel is celebrating the 75th
  anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
         WHEREAS, In 1922, the League of Nations adopted a binding
  resolution recognizing the legal basis for the establishment of the
  modern state of Israel as a home for the Jewish people in the
  historical region of the land of Israel, including the areas of
  Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem; the resolution was
  subsequently affirmed by both houses of the United States Congress;
  and
         WHEREAS, Ruled in ancient times by the kingdom of Israel,
  this region has held a special place in the hearts of Jews for more
  than two thousand years; while some maintained a Jewish presence in
  the land during the long period of exile, members of the global
  diaspora continued to feel a profound spiritual and emotional
  connection; and
         WHEREAS, Modern Israel took its place on the world stage on
  May 14, 1948, following the decimation of European Jewry during the
  Holocaust; the creation of the sovereign and independent state of
  Israel provided a legally recognized homeland for the Jewish
  people; in 1949, after Israel held its first election, the United
  States government established full diplomatic relations with the
  new country; ever since, our nations have remained close allies,
  united by cultural values and strategic interests; and
         WHEREAS, Guided by their own Declaration of Independence, the
  people of Israel have developed a pluralistic, democratic political
  system, a vibrant society, and an advanced, entrepreneurial
  economy; the nation has taken in millions of Jews from the diaspora
  and enjoys peaceful bilateral relations with neighbors in the
  region, including Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, the United Arab
  Emirates, and Sudan; in times of need, it sends humanitarian aid,
  search and rescue teams, mobile hospitals, and emergency supplies
  to help the victims of disasters; and
         WHEREAS, Texans cherish a special friendship with Israel, and
  the nation and the Lone Star State have strong economic ties; Israel
  is one of Texas' strongest partners for trade and investment in the
  Middle East, and top commodities exchanged include industrial
  machinery, aircraft parts, and plastics; many Israeli companies
  currently operate in Texas, notably in the aerospace and energy
  sectors; and
         WHEREAS, Texas and Israel share a profound commitment to
  liberty, independence, and economic opportunity, and this bond is
  sure to deepen in the years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding
  of the modern state of Israel.
