R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Denise Marshall of Cedar Park has inspired all who
  know her by surviving stage IV lung cancer for the past nine years;
  and
         WHEREAS, In 2014, Ms. Marshall received the devastating news
  that she had stage IV non-small cell lung cancer, one of the
  deadliest types of cancer; though she was given less than a 10
  percent chance of living for another year, she greatly surpassed
  doctors' expectations, and even after opting to discontinue
  traditional treatment in 2016, she benefited from new targeted
  therapy options that helped her return from a 10-month stint in
  hospice care; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Marshall worked in radiology and mammography
  for more than 30 years while raising her daughter as a single
  mother; today, she is advocating for lung cancer awareness,
  increased research funding, and expanded screening to all who are
  considered to be at high risk for developing lung cancer; and
         WHEREAS, Having persevered through tremendous adversity,
  Denise Marshall has dedicated herself to providing hope to others
  who are battling cancer, and it is fitting that she be recognized
  for her remarkable grace, courage, and resilience; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Denise Marshall as she celebrates
  her ninth year of beating stage IV lung cancer and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Marshall as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
