R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Daniels Cross Elks Lodge No. 1578 in |
|
Dallas are gathering on June 3, 2023, to celebrate the |
|
organization's rededication in memory of Olious Donald Evans Sr.; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Part of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order |
|
of Elks of the World, the largest predominantly Black fraternal |
|
organization in the world, Daniels Cross Elks Lodge No. 1578 was |
|
founded in 1967 with 25 inaugural members; named in honor of William |
|
A. Daniels and John Cross, the organization works to promote the |
|
principles of charity, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity; its |
|
many contributions to the Dallas area include providing annual |
|
scholarships for deserving local students and offering outreach to |
|
youth community centers, churches, organized sports, and |
|
educational institutions; and |
|
WHEREAS, The organization's new name, Daniels Cross Evans |
|
Elks Lodge No. 1578, pays tribute to the legacy of a longtime member |
|
of the lodge; after joining in 1968, O. D. Evans held a number of |
|
leadership positions with the organization, including financial |
|
secretary, grand esteemed loyal knight, grand esteemed lecturing |
|
knight, and council trustee; moreover, he was elected exalted ruler |
|
in 1996 and continued to serve in the role for more than two |
|
decades; he was also state president of the Texas Elks State |
|
Association from 1998 until his passing in 2021; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, the lodge's members have maintained |
|
a proud tradition of service and fellowship, and it is a privilege |
|
to join in recognizing the organization on this important milestone |
|
in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the rededication of Daniels Cross |
|
Evans Elks Lodge No. 1578 in Dallas and extend to its members |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the lodge as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
