R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
those saddened by the passing of Dr. Bruce Jacobson on January 13, |
|
2023, at the age of 96; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Alfred and Emma Jacobson, Bruce Jacobson |
|
was born in 1926, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and he grew up with the |
|
companionship of four siblings, Don, Inez, Joyce, and Roman; |
|
answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the United States |
|
Navy at the age of 17, serving on the destroyer Donald W. Wolf |
|
during World War II; returning to civilian life, he enrolled at |
|
Texas Christian University, where he graduated with honors, and he |
|
completed his education at Baylor Medical School; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobson began his medical career as a resident |
|
at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, and in the 1950s, he and |
|
several partners opened a private practice clinic in North Richland |
|
Hills; he went on to establish Glenview Hospital, which later |
|
became North Hills Hospital; in the 1970s and 1980s, he oversaw the |
|
family medicine program at Southwestern Medical School; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed physician was president of the Tarrant |
|
County Medical Society and president of the staff at John Peter |
|
Smith Hospital, and in 1982, he was appointed by Ronald Reagan to |
|
the President's Commission on Biomedical Ethics; moreover, |
|
Governor Rick Perry appointed him as an admiral in the Texas Navy; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Dr. Jacobson was a member |
|
of the Birdville Independent School District Board of Trustees and |
|
the board of the Bank of North Texas, and he served as team doctor |
|
for the Richland High School football team; a man of deep faith, he |
|
helped to establish Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobson shared a fulfilling union with his |
|
first wife, Pat, that spanned 57 years until her passing in 2004; |
|
fortunate to find love again, he married Linda Morrow, and the |
|
couple enjoyed 15 years together; he took great pride in his seven |
|
children, Lynn, Jan, Julie, Bruce, Michael, Jennifer, and Eric, and |
|
he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include two |
|
stepdaughters, Melanie and Melissa, and numerous grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; he liked to play golf, travel in his |
|
motorhome, and write poetry, and in retirement, he raised Appaloosa |
|
and thoroughbred horses; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bruce Jacobson possessed a generosity of spirit that |
|
expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of |
|
countless people with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Bruce Jacobson |
|
and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Bruce |
|
Jacobson. |
