R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Davis Elementary School in the Plano Independent |
|
|
School District is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1972, the school is named for the |
|
|
late Olney Davis, an accomplished business leader and two-term |
|
|
mayor of Plano; his myriad contributions to the community included |
|
|
organizing two local banks and serving as the first president of the |
|
|
Plano school board; he was also an active member of First Christian |
|
|
Church of Plano; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Davis Elementary serves hundreds of students |
|
|
in the Plano area, and it has been designated as a regional school |
|
|
for the deaf; among its many honors, the campus was recognized as a |
|
|
National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, |
|
|
and it has received numerous accolades from Texas PTA, including |
|
|
the President's Challenge Award, the Spring Increase Award, and the |
|
|
Voice for Every Child Silver Award; the school currently benefits |
|
|
from the able leadership of its principal, Karma Cunningham, and |
|
|
assistant principal, Diana Wetzel; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For the past five decades, Davis Elementary School |
|
|
has provided its students with a strong educational foundation on |
|
|
which to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in |
|
|
the lives of generations of Plano residents; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Davis |
|
|
Elementary School and extend to all those associated with the |
|
|
school sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
