R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Davis Elementary School in the Plano Independent
  School District is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1972, the school is named for the
  late Olney Davis, an accomplished business leader and two-term
  mayor of Plano; his myriad contributions to the community included
  organizing two local banks and serving as the first president of the
  Plano school board; he was also an active member of First Christian
  Church of Plano; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Davis Elementary serves hundreds of students
  in the Plano area, and it has been designated as a regional school
  for the deaf; among its many honors, the campus was recognized as a
  National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education,
  and it has received numerous accolades from Texas PTA, including
  the President's Challenge Award, the Spring Increase Award, and the
  Voice for Every Child Silver Award; the school currently benefits
  from the able leadership of its principal, Karma Cunningham, and
  assistant principal, Diana Wetzel; and
         WHEREAS, For the past five decades, Davis Elementary School
  has provided its students with a strong educational foundation on
  which to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in
  the lives of generations of Plano residents; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Davis
  Elementary School and extend to all those associated with the
  school sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
