R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Diana Pérez Gomez is commencing her term as |
|
2023-2024 president of the Houston Bar Association on May 11, 2023; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The first Latina to lead the organization, |
|
Mrs. Gomez was named to the board of directors in 2014; she has |
|
served the HBA as chair of numerous committees, including the |
|
judicial polls and employment and personnel committees; in |
|
addition, she has held many other leadership roles, including |
|
co-chair of District 4 of the Texas Bar Foundation and president of |
|
the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston, and board member for the |
|
Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gomez is a shareholder in the Houston office of |
|
the Chamberlain Hrdlicka firm and serves on its board of directors; |
|
moreover, she is the national co-chair for the labor and employment |
|
practice and both the pro bono and women in the law committees; |
|
highly experienced in civil litigation in both state and federal |
|
courts, she focuses on complex labor and employment disputes; her |
|
career also includes government service for the City of Houston, |
|
Harris County, and, by presidential appointment, the U.S. |
|
Department of Education; she holds a bachelor's degree in political |
|
science from Texas A&M University and a law degree from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, The recipient of myriad accolades, Mrs. Gomez has |
|
won two President's Awards from the HBA and four President's Awards |
|
from HisBA, and she is a life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, |
|
Texas Bar Foundation, and Houston Bar Foundation; every year since |
|
2013, she has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list; she has |
|
received multiple Top Lawyer honors from Houstonia magazine, and |
|
she was listed among Houston Business Journal's 2022 Women Who Mean |
|
Business and Houston Woman Magazine's Houston's 50 Most Influential |
|
Women of 2020-2021; recently, she and her husband, Judge Michael |
|
Gomez, were featured in the "Profile in Professionalism: Law in the |
|
Family" series by HBA's Houston Lawyer magazine for their |
|
dedication to the bar and to the wider community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Diana Gomez has greatly benefited the Houston Bar |
|
Association through her skill and commitment to excellence, and her |
|
new role as the organization's 153rd president will allow her to |
|
make an even greater positive impact in her profession; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Diana Pérez Gomez on beginning her |
|
term as 2023-2024 president of the Houston Bar Association and |
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Gomez as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
