R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Russell Miller is retiring as head coach of the
  boys' basketball team at Weiss High School in Pflugerville at the
  end of the 2022-2023 school year, drawing to a close an outstanding
  career in the coaching ranks that has spanned nearly three decades;
  and
         WHEREAS, Coach Miller joined the faculty of newly opened
  Weiss High in 2017, launching the school's basketball program and
  serving as head coach of the boys' team; he guided Weiss to the
  district championship and to the regional tournament in 2021-2022,
  during only the fifth year of the school's existence and the team's
  fourth season of varsity play; under his direction, the Wolves have
  made a total of four playoff appearances; and
         WHEREAS, This experienced educator began his head coaching
  career at Manor High School, leading the Mustangs to three district
  titles and three playoff berths in four years, including
  back-to-back regional tournament appearances; he next served for
  four years as head coach at Frisco Centennial High School and helped
  build its basketball program; his final stop before Weiss High was
  at Georgetown High School, where his teams advanced to the playoffs
  during each of his eight years as head coach, with the 2012-2013
  squad claiming the district crown and reaching the regional finals;
  and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his 22-year head coaching tenure, Coach
  Miller has received six District Coach of the Year awards,
  including two with Weiss High School, as well as two All-Central
  Texas Coach of the Year accolades; an accomplished high school
  athlete in his youth, he played multiple sports at Abernathy High
  School, and he went on to earn a kinesiology degree from West Texas
  A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Miller enjoys the love
  and support of his wife, Julie; retirement will afford him the
  opportunity to spend more time with his family and to pursue his
  passion for playing golf; and
         WHEREAS, Russell Miller has served as an inspiring mentor and
  role model to countless student-athletes, and he may indeed reflect
  with pride on his myriad achievements as he embarks on the next
  exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Russell Miller on his retirement as
  head coach of the Weiss High School boys' basketball team and extend
  to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Miller as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
