WHEREAS, The Texas Poultry Federation and Affiliates is |
celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023, |
providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the organization for |
its contributions to the state's poultry industry; and |
WHEREAS, The Texas Poultry Federation and Affiliates traces |
its origins to 1923, when its founders, Judge Walter Burton, Fred |
Glass, Mrs. Carl Hoffman, M. Johnson, Dr. J. J. Johnson, F. W. |
Kazmeier, and P. E. Payne, held the first meeting of the Texas Baby |
Chick Association in the Poultry Building at the State Fair of |
Texas; the group's early membership included 40 hatchery |
professionals, and in 1947, the organization was renamed as the |
Texas Poultry Improvement Association to better reflect its service |
to all members of the poultry industry; over the years, the TPIA |
grew to encompass a number of affiliate groups as well, and in 1965, |
all of the organizations unified to become the Texas Poultry |
Federation and Affiliates; and |
WHEREAS, Today, the organization's affiliates include the |
Texas Allied Poultry Association, the Texas Broiler Council, the |
Texas Egg Council, the Texas Poultry Improvement Association, and |
the Texas Turkey Federation; the Texas Poultry Federation and |
Affiliates is the only statewide organization that specifically |

broiler subindustry ranks fifth in the U.S., processes more than 59 |

Texas also ranks fifth in the nation, producing some 6.16 billion |
eggs for the global marketplace annually; and |
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Texas Poultry Federation |
and Affiliates has played a vital role in supporting the Texas |
poultry industry, and in so doing, it has helped to strengthen the |
economy of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
