R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Andrew McCord Gilchrist of Houston, an accomplished
  attorney, a proud Texan, and a beloved father, husband, and friend,
  passed away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 55; and
         WHEREAS, Born on September 16, 1967, Andrew Gilchrist was the
  son of Ralph and Mary Ann Gilchrist; as a child, he was passionate
  about sports, especially basketball; he excelled as an athlete at
  Memorial High School, receiving several All-State and All-Star
  honors, and he helped lead the varsity team to the state
  championship finals in 1984; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gilchrist earned a scholarship to play
  basketball at Rice University, where he was a starter for all four
  years and was voted senior captain by his teammates; he led the team
  in field goal percentage for three consecutive years, and he
  received both the Most Valuable Player award and the Billy Wohn
  Award as the top male athlete at Rice; he obtained a degree in
  economics and managerial studies and then continued his education
  at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he
  graduated in 1993; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gilchrist was as much a superstar in the
  courthouse as he was on the basketball court; he began his legal
  career at litigation boutique firms and earned his board
  certification in personal injury trial law; in 2000, he was hired by
  ExxonMobil as counsel in its Torts Litigation section, and he
  remained with the company for the next 22 years, serving most
  recently as general counsel for ExxonMobil Risk Management, Inc.;
  over the course of his career, he met people who were not just
  colleagues but dear, lifelong friends and mentors; outside of his
  professional life, he was a member of The Church of St. John the
  Divine, the Houston Country Club, the Boot Ranch Golf Club, and
  Garwood Lease; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Gilchrist enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife, Laura Gilchrist, and he adored their
  daughters, Mackie and Ellie; he liked fishing, hunting, playing
  golf, and any activity he could share with friends and family, and
  he was always the life of the party and the star of the show; in
  addition to being a loving family man, he was devoted to his
  community and to his faith; and
         WHEREAS, Although the passing of Andrew Gilchrist brings an
  immeasurable loss to his loved ones, they may take comfort in
  remembering the exceptional life he led and the many happy times
  they shared with him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew McCord
  Gilchrist and extend sincere condolences to all those who mourn his
  passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Andrew
  McCord Gilchrist.
