R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Judge Rick Morris has been named a recipient of a
  2023 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Killeen Independent School
  District Alumni Association; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, the alumni association recognizes
  Killeen ISD graduates who have contributed significantly to their
  communities or professions and who serve as inspiring role models
  for future generations; and
         WHEREAS, A 1969 graduate of Killeen High School, Judge Morris
  earned a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin
  and a law degree from the Baylor University School of Law; he began
  his legal career in private practice and went on to serve as an
  assistant U.S. attorney before being appointed judge of the 146th
  Judicial District Court on May 5, 1989; in the course of his six
  consecutive terms on the bench, he presided over countless civil,
  family, and criminal law cases; furthermore, he acted as judge of
  the Bell County Drug Court from 2009 to 2015; he currently serves as
  a visiting judge, and he is of counsel to the Baird, Crews, Schiller
  and Whitaker, P.C. law firm; and
         WHEREAS, Judge Morris has been affiliated with a number of
  professional organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, the
  Texas Center for the Judiciary, and the Bell County Bar
  Association; in addition, he is a life fellow of the Texas Bar
  Foundation; in recognition of his many achievements, he was named
  the Bell County Public Sector Lawyer of the Year in 2007 and 2012;
  and
         WHEREAS, The accomplishments of noteworthy alumni are a
  source of great pride to all those associated with Killeen ISD, and
  Rick Morris is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Rick Morris on his receipt of
  a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Killeen Independent
  School District Alumni Association and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Morris as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
