R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Ellen Cavitt has been named a recipient of
  a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Killeen Independent School
  District Alumni Association; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, the alumni association recognizes
  Killeen ISD graduates who have contributed significantly to their
  communities or professions and who serve as inspiring role models
  for future generations; and
         WHEREAS, An alumnus of Harker Heights Elementary School,
  Manor Junior High, and Killeen High School, Dr. Cavitt holds
  bachelor's and master's degrees in horn performance from The
  Juilliard School as well as a doctorate in music education from The
  University of Texas at Austin; in addition, she has completed the
  Harvard University Management Development Program for higher
  education leaders; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Cavitt began her career as a professional
  musician and music educator, serving on the faculties of Michigan
  State University, the University of Arizona, and The University of
  Texas at San Antonio and as an administrator of instrumental music
  at North East ISD in San Antonio; she went on to join the faculty of
  Texas State University, where she currently serves as associate
  vice president for academic success, dean of University College,
  and professor of music education; through the years, she has also
  benefited the university as director of graduate studies in music
  and as associate director of the School of Music; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Cavitt has received the Texas State University
  Alumni Teaching Award of Honor, Everette Swinney Faculty Senate
  Teaching Award, Presidential Awards of Distinction in Service and
  Teaching, and the College Achievement Award for Excellence in
  Scholarly/Creative Activity; she is an active clinician and
  adjudicator, and her research has been presented at regional,
  national, and international conferences; moreover, she has served
  as editor for the Texas Music Education Research Journal for 13
  years and as chair of the Instructional Strategies Research
  Interest Group for the National Association for Music Education,
  and she has compiled and edited publications on music education and
  music theory; and
         WHEREAS, The accomplishments of noteworthy alumni are a
  source of great pride to all those associated with Killeen ISD, and
  Dr. Mary Cavitt is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mary Ellen Cavitt on her
  receipt of a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Killeen
  Independent School District Alumni Association and extend to her
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Cavitt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
