R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends have suffered an immeasurable |
|
loss with the untimely passing of Alan D. Vera of Houston on May 4, |
|
2023, at the age of 75; and |
|
WHEREAS, Before beginning his successful business career, |
|
Alan Vera graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University with a |
|
bachelor's degree in political and military science; Mr. Vera |
|
valiantly served his country as a United States Army Airborne |
|
Ranger from 1970 to 1974, receiving multiple awards and unit |
|
citations for his service; during the Vietnam War, he completed 22 |
|
nighttime jumps behind enemy lines; and |
|
WHEREAS, After his military career, Mr. Vera went on to serve |
|
as president and chief executive officer of the Quest Business |
|
Agency, a role he held for nearly four decades; over the course of |
|
his tenure, he was honored and recognized for his success and |
|
innovations in his field with numerous accolades, including |
|
Marketer of the Year by the American Marketing Association and |
|
Vendor of the Year by FedEx Retail Operations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Vera was one of the original founders of True |
|
the Vote and had served as the ballot security chairman for the |
|
Harris County Republican Party since 2014; he had worked with |
|
members of both chambers to write legislation to improve election |
|
integrity and was named Volunteer of the Year for SD 7 by the State |
|
Republican Executive Committee (SREC); he and his wife, Colleen, |
|
were honored with the lifetime achievement award presented by the |
|
Harris County Republican Party at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner in |
|
March 2022; on April 20, 2023, shortly before his passing, he |
|
celebrated his birthday in the House Elections Committee; Mr. Vera |
|
gave all the credit for whatever good he accomplished in his life to |
|
Almighty God; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although his journey on this earth ended too soon, |
|
Alan Vera passed away doing what he loved, testifying at the Texas |
|
State Capitol on election integrity bills; he impacted the lives of |
|
everyone around him in ways beyond measure with his compassion, |
|
empathy, and kindness, and they will forever hold him close in their |
|
hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alan D. Vera and |
|
extend profound condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Colleen Vera; to his seven children; to his six beautiful and |
|
energetic grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alan Vera. |
