R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Chief Shawn Michael
  Snider of the Edinburg Fire Department were deeply saddened by his
  passing on May 1, 2023, at the age of 58; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Russell Louis Snider and Kathleen
  Peterschmidt, Shawn Snider was born in San Diego, California, on
  July 10, 1964, and he grew up with the companionship of five
  siblings, Chris, Richard, Caroline, Jerice, and Michael; he
  attended schools in Tyler and Pharr; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Snider began his career as a firefighter and
  mechanic with the Alamo Fire Department in 1981, and he rose through
  the ranks to become a fire marshal; he joined the Edinburg Fire
  Department as an assistant fire marshal in 1991, and he took on the
  role of chief in 1999; along the way, he served as the emergency
  management coordinator for the City of Edinburg and briefly held
  the position of acting city manager; and
         WHEREAS, Respected in his profession, Chief Snider served as
  president of the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association
  of Texas, and he was a regional director for the Texas Fire Chiefs
  Association; he held numerous leadership roles with other
  organizations as well, including the 2nd Regional Fire Academy and
  the Rio Grande Valley Firefighter's and Fire Marshals' Association,
  and he served as a fire school instructor and rescue task force
  leader; among his many achievements, he was inducted into the Rio
  Grande Valley Walk of Fame in 2009, and he was named the 2014
  Edinburg Firefighter of the Year; in 2018, he received an award for
  Outstanding Service and Leadership in Emergency Management; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Chief Snider benefited from
  the love and support of his wife, Edna Casas Snider, with whom he
  shared more than three decades, and he took great pride in his
  daughter, Sarah; he was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic
  Church, and during his leisure hours, he enjoyed hunting and
  fishing; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a distinguished public
  servant, Shawn Snider lived a caring and purposeful life, and he
  leaves behind a record of service that will long resonate in the
  Edinburg community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Chief Shawn Michael
  Snider and extend heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Shawn
  Snider.
