R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Shah Ardalan has greatly distinguished himself
  as the founding president of Lone Star College-University Park in
  Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Ardalan began his career with the Lone Star
  College System in 2008, when he was appointed vice chancellor and
  CIO; in 2011, he was tasked with overseeing the establishment of the
  system's sixth campus and named its chief executive officer; he
  took on the role of president of Lone Star College-University Park
  in 2012, and under his able leadership, the school has grown to
  serve an enrollment of 13,000 students, and it employs more than 100
  full-time faculty members and over 400 adjunct professors; in
  addition to leading the college, Dr. Ardalan has served as a guest
  teacher and lecturer for doctoral classes, supported a wide range
  of faculty initiatives, and played an instrumental role in
  establishing new workforce and continuing education programs,
  degrees, and certificates; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Ardalan's previous experience includes his
  leadership roles at College of Southern Nevada, San Juan College,
  and Prairie View A&M University; moreover, he has served on
  numerous boards and committees, such as those for College Board,
  the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, Greater Houston
  Partnership, the Northwest Harris County chapter of the American
  Heart Association, and the Texas Association of Community Colleges;
  and
         WHEREAS, Among his many honors, Dr. Ardalan has been named
  Community College President of the Year by SAFE Diversity
  Communities, and he has received the Shirley B. Gordon Award from
  Phi Theta Kappa as well as the Carl M. Nelson Award from the Texas
  Association of Community Colleges; he holds a bachelor's degree in
  physics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a
  master's degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina A&T
  State University, and a doctorate of education in community college
  leadership from John Roueche Graduate Center at National American
  University in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Through his visionary leadership and commitment to
  excellence, Dr. Shah Ardalan has greatly advanced the important
  mission of Lone Star College, and he may indeed reflect with pride
  on his many contributions to higher education; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Dr. Shah Ardalan for his exemplary
  service as president of Lone Star College-University Park and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Ardalan as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
