R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The chess team of Berta Cabaza Middle School in the |
|
San Benito Consolidated Independent School District enjoyed an |
|
exceptional 2022-2023 season; and |
|
WHEREAS, Among its many accomplishments, the team finished in |
|
third place at the Texas Chess Association Region VIII Chess |
|
Championships, which were held in Harlingen on February 4 and 5; the |
|
group went on to compete in the K-8 Under 1100 category at the |
|
United States Chess Federation 2023 National Middle School |
|
Championship in Round Rock in April, finishing in 10th place among |
|
some of the top student chess teams in the country; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Berta Cabaza Middle School chess team received |
|
valuable contributions from each of its members, including |
|
Sebastian Saldivar, Nathan Rada, Jedrin Arroyo-Baez, Damion |
|
Campos, Jacob Montoya, and Christian Gomez, who further |
|
distinguished himself by placing sixth in the K-8 Under 1700 |
|
division; these accomplished players benefited from the leadership |
|
and support of chess instructor Erick Guevara and sponsor Albert |
|
Sanchez; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the skill, hard work, and unwavering |
|
determination of its members, the Berta Cabaza Middle School chess |
|
program has established itself as one of the most successful in the |
|
Lone Star State, and all those associated with the team are to be |
|
commended for their achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Berta Cabaza Middle School |
|
chess team on a successful 2022-2023 season and extend to its |
|
players sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
