R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Henry is retiring as superintendent of the |
|
|
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District on December 31, |
|
|
2023, drawing to a close an exemplary career in education that has |
|
|
spanned more than four decades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since taking the helm of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in |
|
|
2011, Dr. Henry has guided the district through a period of |
|
|
significant growth, including the addition of nine new campuses and |
|
|
the passage of two bond programs to address increased enrollment |
|
|
through facility renovations, transportation upgrades, and safety |
|
|
and security enhancements; under his leadership, the district |
|
|
improved academic achievement and earned an A rating from the Texas |
|
|
Education Agency; in addition, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD earned the |
|
|
H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and was named Best Overall in |
|
|
Academic Performance and Financial Performance by the Education |
|
|
Resource Group; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Henry previously served as superintendent of |
|
|
the Galena Park, Sulphur Springs, Collinsville, and Milford |
|
|
Independent School Districts; he holds a bachelor's degree from The |
|
|
University of Texas at Arlington and a master's degree and |
|
|
doctorate from the University of North Texas; he has been named the |
|
|
Education Service Center Region 4 Superintendent of the Year and |
|
|
the Association of Texas Professional Educators Texas |
|
|
Administrator of the Year, and he was a finalist for the Texas |
|
|
Superintendent of the Year award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed educator is a member of the Texas |
|
|
Association of School Administrators, and he has served as chair of |
|
|
the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council, as vice |
|
|
chair of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, and chair of the |
|
|
Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce; he is currently a trustee of |
|
|
the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation Leadership Committee and HCA |
|
|
Houston Healthcare; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Henry enjoys the love and |
|
|
support of a fine family that includes his wife, Cindy, and their |
|
|
three children and seven grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his professionalism, dedication, and |
|
|
commitment to excellence, Mark Henry has earned the respect and |
|
|
admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect with pride |
|
|
on his many contributions as he begins the next exciting chapter of |
|
|
his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mark Henry on his retirement as |
|
|
superintendent of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School |
|
|
District and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Henry as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
