R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Valley Spring United Methodist Church in Llano
  County is marking the 120th anniversary of its historic house of
  worship in 2023; and
         WHEREAS, The congregation was first organized in 1881 as
  Methodist Episcopal Church South; constructing its first sanctuary
  on land deeded to the congregation by Sarah Phillips, the church
  sold the land back to the original owner in 1902, and the structure
  became an annex for the one-room school in Valley Spring; that same
  year, M. G. and Phena Owen deeded two lots on Main Street to the
  congregation, and in 1903 the church built a new wooden sanctuary
  with a metal roof and a bell and steeple over the front doors, where
  it continues to hold services today; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Valley Spring United Methodist
  Church has benefited from the dedicated efforts of many outstanding
  clergy, and the church has provided a setting for important rites of
  passage in the lives of area residents; and
         WHEREAS, Valley Spring UMC has long served as a source of
  inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and the
  continued existence of its historic church home is a testament to
  the unwavering commitment of its members, both past and present;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Valley Spring United Methodist Church in
  Llano County on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the
  church's sanctuary and extend to its congregants sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
