R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bellaire High School in the Houston Independent
  School District received the AP Computer Science Female Diversity
  Award from College Board; and
         WHEREAS, College Board is a national nonprofit organization
  dedicated to promoting excellence and equity in education, and it
  also administers a number of college readiness and success
  programs, including the Advanced Placement Program; the AP Computer
  Science Female Diversity Award honors schools that have achieved
  either 50 percent or higher representation of female exam takers in
  one or both AP computer science courses, or a percentage of female
  exam takers that meets or exceeds that of the school's female
  population; of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, fewer
  than 1,200 schools nationwide reached that worthy goal; and
         WHEREAS, Historically, female students have remained
  underrepresented in computer science classes, and according to the
  National Girls Collaborative Project, women represent just 26
  percent of professionals in the fields of computer and mathematical
  sciences today; and
         WHEREAS, Providing female students with access to computer
  science courses is vital to ensuring gender parity within the
  industry, and the AP Computer Science program at Bellaire High
  School is empowering young women to build an even brighter future as
  they work to become the next generation of STEM and computer science
  professionals; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bellaire High School on its receipt
  of the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award from College
  Board and extend to all those associated with the school sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
