R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Dumas High School boys' and girls' wrestling
  teams distinguished themselves with their exceptional performances
  during the 2022-2023 season, furthering their city's strong
  tradition of excellence in the sport; and
         WHEREAS, In just their fourth year of competition, the Dumas
  High girls' team added a new chapter to the rich legacy of the
  school's wrestling program; at the Texas State 5A Dual
  Championships in January, the Demonettes secured three dominant
  wins against Azle, Lubbock, and Richmond Foster High Schools to
  clinch the title; Berkley Funderburg was named Outstanding Wrestler
  at the tournament, going 3-0 with two pins and a 2-0 decision in the
  finals; the team also benefited from undefeated performances from
  Elaina Morgan and Audi Pichardo and from wins by Emily Loya, Andrea
  Aguirre, Ximena Giron, Angel Sanchez, Jolee Jones, Serese Guillen,
  and Kennedi Purcell; and
         WHEREAS, At the 2023 UIL Wrestling State Tournament, held on
  February 17 and 18 at the Berry Center in Cypress, the Demonettes
  captured the bronze medal in the 5A team competition; individually,
  Ms. Jones received the silver medal in the 235-pound weight class,
  and bronze medals were collected by Ms. Morgan in the 138-pound
  division and Ms. Loya in the 126-pound division; throughout the
  season, the squad was led by first-year head coach Chris Holzworth
  and assistant coach Katie Ruiz; and
         WHEREAS, The boys' team also excelled at the state meet,
  finishing fourth among the 5A competitors; for the second year in a
  row, individual state titles were won by Hunter Bogner in the
  126-pound division and Bronson Baxter in the 150-pound division;
  the Demons also tallied fourth place finishes from Daniel Acosta in
  the 138-pound division and Jackson Moss in the 165-pound division;
  Dumas was also represented at state by Brandon Smith at 132 pounds,
  Ezven Venzor at 144 pounds, and Alberto Sanchez at 190 pounds; the
  Demons were guided by head coach Sion King in his inaugural season
  at the helm of the program; and
         WHEREAS, Through their skill, hard work, and enduring
  commitment to excellence, the Dumas Demons and Demonettes have once
  again earned a place among the top wrestling teams in the Lone Star
  State, and they are a source of tremendous pride to their classmates
  and their many supporters in the local community; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Dumas High School boys' and
  girls' wrestling teams on their success during the 2022-2023 season
  and extend to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
