R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Flossie Mae Hubbard Johnson, an esteemed member of |
|
Houston's Kashmere Gardens community for more than seven decades, |
|
passed away on April 1, 2023, at the age of 108; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to Garfield and Lonia Hubbard on September 27, |
|
1914, the former Flossie Hubbard grew up with two sisters and three |
|
brothers in Black Land, a small farming community; she attended |
|
school in nearby Trinity; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1935, she relocated to Houston's Fifth Ward, and |
|
she married Wayne Wright Johnson the following year; the couple was |
|
blessed with four children, and through the years, their treasured |
|
family grew to include seven grandchildren and five |
|
great-grandchildren; Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson settled in Kashmere Gardens in 1952; |
|
known by the nickname "Butte," she set an inspiring example of civic |
|
engagement, giving generously of her time and talents in support of |
|
local schools and the electoral process; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. Johnson joined Zion Hill |
|
Missionary Baptist Church in 1952 and remained active in the |
|
congregation; she enjoyed walking to worship services, reading the |
|
Houston Chronicle, growing vegetables, and baking tasty pies and |
|
cakes; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Flossie Johnson is deeply missed, she has |
|
left her family and friends with a host of cherished memories, and |
|
she will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Flossie Mae Hubbard |
|
Johnson and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her |
|
passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Flossie |
|
Johnson. |
