R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Gladys Goffney celebrated her 50th anniversary as a
  lawyer in 2022; and
         WHEREAS, After enjoying success as a medical technologist,
  Ms. Goffney embarked on a career shift in 1966, when she began
  taking night courses at South Texas College of Law Houston; at that
  time, there were only a handful of female students attending the
  college, and Ms. Goffney was a founding member of the women's
  group; she earned her juris doctor in 1971, becoming the college's
  second Black female graduate; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Goffney passed the bar exam and became a
  licensed attorney in 1972; she opened a solo practice, originally
  specializing in family, juvenile, and criminal law, and she later
  expanded her practice to include probate law; through the years,
  she has served as a referee and attorney ad litem in hundreds of
  cases, and she further distinguished herself during her time as
  associate judge in the 246th Family District Court in Harris
  County; today, she focuses on nonlitigious probate cases; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of more than five decades, Gladys
  Goffney has demonstrated a deep commitment to the legal profession,
  and her skill, expertise, and dedication have earned her the
  admiration and appreciation of her colleagues as well as the many
  clients she has served; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Gladys Goffney on her 50th
  anniversary as a lawyer and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Goffney as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
