R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The girls' soccer team from Marcus High School in
  Flower Mound proved itself one of the finest in Texas by winning the
  2023 University Interscholastic League 6A state championship; and
         WHEREAS, Despite having lost 11 seniors from the previous
  year's team, the Lady Marauders compiled a 19-1-1 record in the
  regular season; in the playoffs, they dispatched Denton Guyer,
  Richardson, Allen, and Northwest Nelson High Schools before earning
  a dramatic 1-0 decision over defending state champion Southlake
  Carroll to earn a berth in the state tournament for the seventh time
  in school history; and
         WHEREAS, In the semifinals, the Lady Marauders scored three
  goals in the second half against Round Rock Westwood to collect a
  4-0 win; that set the stage for a showdown with previously unbeaten
  Ridge Point High School for the state crown; after snapping a
  scoreless deadlock in the 42nd minute, Marcus capitalized on a
  penalty kick later in the second half to secure a 2-0 triumph and
  capture the second state championship in program history; and
         WHEREAS, Bella Campos was named the championship game Most
  Valuable Player for her two-goal performance in the finale, and she
  was joined on the All-Tournament team by Caroline Castans, Madi
  Patterson, and Carys Torgesen; the Lady Marauders also received
  valuable contributions throughout the year from the other members
  of the roster: Bry Russell, Aubrey Tipton, Taylor McEnaney, Dylan
  Howard, Gabi Childress, Savannah Wylie, Maddie Reynolds, Emma
  Fioretti, Maddie Hayes, Allie Williams, Maddie Busch, Dakota McKee,
  Hannah Campos, Piper Garcia, Annika Denning, Chloe Adams, Zemira
  Dube, Kyra Faselle, and Sloane Denning; these dedicated athletes
  were guided by head coach Erin Hebert and assistant coaches Lauren
  Bagwell and Emily Klein; valuable support was provided by student
  trainer Camila Hernandez and athletic trainers Diana Lichtenstein,
  Beth Brunett, and Cade Ogilvie; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, and the Marcus High School Lady Marauders
  will treasure the memory of this accomplishment for the rest of
  their lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Marcus High School girls'
  soccer team on winning the 2023 UIL 6A state championship and extend
  to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
