R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The San Marcos High School boys' basketball team
  enjoyed an outstanding 2022-2023 season, advancing all the way to
  the regional finals of the University Interscholastic League state
  playoffs for the first time in 40 years; and
         WHEREAS, En route to winning the District 27-6A championship,
  the Rattlers went undefeated on their home court in addition to
  capturing tournament titles at the River City Classic and the
  San Marcos Holiday Classic; the squad opened its thrilling playoff
  run by reeling off consecutive victories over Clark, Westlake, and
  Reagan High Schools; and
         WHEREAS, In the regional semifinals, San Marcos battled
  Warren High School and emerged with a hard-fought 53-50 win; that
  set the stage for the regional championship contest against Brennan
  High School, in which the Rattlers put forth an exceptional effort
  but ultimately saw their campaign come to an end; finishing with a
  superb record of 38 wins to just 4 defeats, the team set a program
  record for the most victories in a single season; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the year, San Marcos was paced by
  District 27-6A Most Valuable Player Malik Presley, who was joined
  on the All-District First Team by Kaden Gumbs and Jayven Cofer;
  Mateus Perkins earned All-District Second Team honors, and Zyair
  Jolivette and Cash Good were All-District Honorable Mention
  selections; Ezequiel Davila, Isaiah Deleon, Mr. Gumbs, Kai Lee,
  Mr. Perkins, Mr. Presley, and Abel Trevino received Academic
  All-District accolades; over the course of the season, these
  dedicated student-athletes benefited from the leadership of head
  coach Dan Miller and his assistants; and
         WHEREAS, Demonstrating a combination of exceptional talent
  and fierce determination, the San Marcos Rattlers turned in an
  unforgettable performance during the 2022-2023 season, and their
  accomplishments are a source of great pride to their many
  supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the San Marcos High School boys'
  basketball team on a successful year and extend to the players,
  coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
