R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Cheryl Smith retired as a senior grievance
  specialist from Alliance/AFT on January 31, 2023, drawing to a
  close an exemplary career with the organization that spanned more
  than two decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith first joined Alliance/AFT (American
  Federation of Teachers) in October 2002; over the course of her
  tenure, she went above and beyond in assisting the organization's
  members, and she further distinguished herself through her
  dependability and thorough preparation; and
         WHEREAS, Highly engaged in civic life as well, Mrs. Smith
  currently serves as chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission for
  the city of Grand Prairie and as a board member of the Beacon Hill
  HOA; she is also the president of 360 Corridor Democratic Action!,
  chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party Educator to Educator
  Network Steering Committee, and a member of the House District 101
  Transportation & Health Task Force; furthermore, she has served as
  an election judge, a precinct chair, a deputy voter registrar, a
  convention chair for Senate District 23, and a delegation chair for
  Senate District 22; and
         WHEREAS, A 1973 graduate of Kashmere High School, Mrs. Smith
  holds a bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University; in all
  her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her husband,
  Thomas, as well as their three sons and eight grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, dedication, and
  commitment to excellence, Cheryl Smith has earned the respect and
  admiration of all those who have had the privilege of working with
  her, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as
  she begins the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Cheryl Smith on her retirement from
  Alliance/AFT and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
