R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Tricia Shay of the Borger Independent School |
|
|
District has been named the 2022-2023 Secondary Teacher of the Year |
|
|
by the Region 16 Education Service Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The winners of these prestigious annual awards are |
|
|
first nominated for consideration by their fellow faculty members, |
|
|
and those who are later chosen as district Teacher of the Year |
|
|
become eligible for the regional honor; Mrs. Shay further |
|
|
distinguished herself as one of three finalists for the Texas |
|
|
Association of School Administrators 2023 Texas Secondary Teacher |
|
|
of the Year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Shay currently serves as an English teacher at |
|
|
Borger High School in Borger ISD, where she has taught for 12 years; |
|
|
she holds an associate's degree from Frank Phillips College and a |
|
|
bachelor's degree from West Texas A&M University, as well as |
|
|
certifications for secondary English and core subjects; she also |
|
|
has a supplemental certification for English as a second language; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Before embarking on her career as an educator, |
|
|
Mrs. Shay worked as a reporter for the Borger News-Herald, covering |
|
|
Borger ISD board meetings, and she eventually became the official |
|
|
correspondent for the district; she began serving as a substitute |
|
|
teacher during that time, and she found that she loved being part of |
|
|
the process of when a student understands something for the first |
|
|
time; as a result, she enrolled in the post-baccalaureate education |
|
|
program at West Texas A&M; while she acknowledges the necessity of |
|
|
lessons and discipline, she places more importance on providing |
|
|
students with a nurturing and inspiring environment; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Tricia Shay exemplifies the passion, determination, |
|
|
and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our best teachers, |
|
|
and she has set a standard of excellence to which all in her |
|
|
profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tricia Shay on her selection as the |
|
|
2022-2023 Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Region 16 Education |
|
|
Service Center and being one of three finalists for the Texas |
|
|
Association of School Administrators 2023 Texas Secondary Teacher |
|
|
of the Year and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success with her important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Shay as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
