R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
  cause for celebration, and Maxine Curvey of Houston marked that
  special milestone on January 23, 2023; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Lum and Flossie White Curvey, Maxine
  Curvey was born in Grapeland in 1933; she attended W. R. Banks High
  School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M
  University, as well as a master's degree from Texas Southern
  University; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career in
  education, Ms. Curvey taught with the Houston Independent School
  District and the Aldine Independent School District, and her
  52-year tenure in the classroom is thought to be one of the longest
  in the city; she further contributed to the development of area
  youth through her work as a troop leader and a Christian Youth
  Fellowship council member; and
         WHEREAS, A founding resident of the historic Pleasantville
  community, Ms. Curvey is a longtime member of several neighborhood
  organizations, including the Pleasantville Civic League, Voters
  League, Historical Society, and Elders Council; moreover, she is a
  valued congregant of Disciples of Christ Christian Church, where
  she has held a variety of leadership roles, and she has received
  numerous awards for her activism and her dedicated efforts to
  benefit her fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to
  know her, Maxine Curvey may reflect with great satisfaction on a
  lifetime of achievement, and it is a pleasure to join her many
  friends and loved ones in honoring her on this memorable occasion;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Maxine Curvey on her 90th birthday
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Curvey as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
