R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Lancaster Independent School District chief of
  athletics and head girls' track coach Beverly Day Humphrey has
  enjoyed remarkable success over the course of an exemplary coaching
  and teaching career that has spanned more than three decades; and
         WHEREAS, After starring in track at Lincoln High School in
  Dallas, Beverly Humphrey received a full scholarship to Prairie
  View A&M University; there, she was a four-time All-American and a
  national champion in the 200 meters, earning Most Valuable and Most
  Outstanding Runner accolades on the women's track team; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Humphrey began her career as the volleyball
  and girls' track coach for the Greenville Independent School
  District, becoming the district's first African American head
  coach; she subsequently became the first Black head coach at
  Lancaster ISD, where she currently holds the titles of chief of
  athletics and public relations and head coach of the Lancaster High
  School girls' track team; credited with establishing the district's
  winning culture, she has led her track teams to a UIL-record 13
  state championships as well as a total of more than 60 area,
  regional, and district crowns through the years; and
         WHEREAS, In 2007, the Lancaster ISD stadium was renamed
  Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium; moreover, she was honored with
  induction into the Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame
  with the Class of 2020-2021, and she also belongs to the Texas Black
  Sports Hall of Fame, the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association
  Hall of Fame, the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and
  the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Hall of
  Honor; additionally, she is a member of numerous organizations,
  including the Texas Girls Coaches Association, the Texas High
  School Athletic Directors Association, and the Texas Track and
  Field Coaches Association; and
         WHEREAS, Beverly Humphrey has made a lasting and positive
  difference in the lives of countless Lancaster ISD
  student-athletes, and it is indeed a privilege to join in
  recognizing her for her exemplary contributions; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Beverly Day Humphrey for her exceptional
  accomplishments with Lancaster ISD and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Humphrey as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
