R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The members of the Panhandle High School girls'
  track team turned in an unforgettable performance by claiming a
  share of the 2A championship at the 2023 University Interscholastic
  League Track & Field State Meet; and
         WHEREAS, On May 12, the Panhandle athletes joined the other
  top high school competitors in Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in
  Austin; though they were competing with only four athletes, the
  Pantherettes compiled an overall score of 32 points to finish in a
  three-way tie for the 2A crown; with its exceptional showing, the
  Panhandle team collected its second state title in three years in
  addition to winning the silver medal in 2022; and
         WHEREAS, Makennah Austin, Sydney Adee, Grace Sims, and Leah
  Land contributed all 32 points for the Pantherettes, delivering
  season-best times in two relay events; running in the order of
  Austin, Adee, Sims, and Land, the quartet racked up their first 16
  points in the 800-meter relay, clocking in at 1 minute, 43.43
  seconds, to secure the silver medal; then, with the 2A championship
  on the line, the four runners lined up for the final event of the
  night, the 1,600-meter relay, with Ms. Adee and Ms. Land trading
  places in the relay order; the squad crossed the finish line in
  4:01.07, collecting a second silver medal and 16 additional points
  to clinch a share of the title; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, and the Panhandle Pantherettes will
  treasure the memory of this accomplishment for the rest of their
  lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Panhandle High School girls'
  track team on claiming a share of the 2A championship at the 2023
  UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to the athletes sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Pantherettes as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
