R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Angelita Gutierrez Cruz of Corpus Christi passed
  away on May 1, 2023, at the age of 101, drawing to a close a long and
  purposeful life devoted to her family, her faith, and her
  community; and
         WHEREAS, The former Angelita Gutierrez was born at the King
  Ranch on September 17, 1921, to Cecilio Gutierrez II and Francisca
  Aranda Gutierrez, and she grew up with the companionship of six
  siblings, Concepcion, Alejandro, Emilio, Enrique, Adolfo, and
  Arturo; during her youth, her family moved to Corpus Christi, where
  she attended Cheston Heath Elementary School; and
         WHEREAS, Distinguishing herself as a professional
  seamstress, Mrs. Cruz made a range of attire, including women's
  clothing and wedding dresses; she also worked as a teacher's
  assistant for sewing classes at Del Mar College, and she turned in
  first-place and second-place showings in a quilt-making
  competition at a Corpus Christi fair; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Cruz enjoyed the love and
  support of her husband, Mariano G. Cruz, with whom she shared a
  rewarding marriage that spanned more than seven decades before his
  passing; she was the devoted mother of 4 children, Frances,
  Mariano, David, and the late Janie Vega, and over the years, she
  experienced the joy of welcoming 7 grandchildren and 14
  great-grandchildren into her treasured family; she pursued her
  passions for music, dancing, and swimming in her leisure time, and
  she also enjoyed keeping up with local and world events; a lifelong
  Catholic and a woman of strong faith, she was an active member of
  the Schoenstatt Movement; and
         WHEREAS, Admired and cherished for her unfailing optimism and
  her zest for life, Angelita Cruz brightened the world for all who
  knew her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Angelita Gutierrez
  Cruz and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to
  her daughter, Frances Barrera; to her sons, Mariano Cruz Jr. and
  David Cruz; to her grandchildren, Javier Vega, Jaime Vega, Sergio
  Barrera, Steve Barrera, Gerianne Freeman, Eartha Cruz, and Martin
  Galicia; to her great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Angelita
  Cruz.
