R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
|
passing of Jerry L. Hickman on August 28, 2022, at the age of 79; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Margaret "Scottie" Hickman, |
|
|
Jerry Hickman was born on October 7, 1942, in Dallas and grew up |
|
|
sharing in the companionship of three siblings, Becky, Charles, and |
|
|
Mikey; he graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 and went on to |
|
|
earn a bachelor's degree in sociology from Midwestern State |
|
|
University, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa; a veteran of |
|
|
the U.S. Navy, he was stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard aircraft |
|
|
carrier; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After earning a master's degree in sociology from |
|
|
Texas Tech University, Mr. Hickman started his career at the Texas |
|
|
Rehabilitation Commission as a counselor, and he went on to become a |
|
|
regional director, a position he held until retirement; he received |
|
|
recognition as an outstanding manager of the local TRC office; he |
|
|
also participated in numerous YMCA programs and helped |
|
|
underprivileged children and children with disabilities through |
|
|
the YMCA Office of Economic Opportunity; in his leisure time, he |
|
|
enjoyed running, hiking, and playing racquetball and golf; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hickman took great pride in his daughter, |
|
|
Shanna, and with the passing years, he had the privilege of seeing |
|
|
his family grow to include a beloved granddaughter, Emma; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Known for his loyalty, his honesty, and his |
|
|
dedication to helping others, Jerry Hickman touched countless lives |
|
|
during his journey on this earth, and he will forever be remembered |
|
|
with admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry L. Hickman and |
|
|
extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry |
|
|
Hickman. |
