R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Houston Assembly of Delphian Chapters is
  celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023, providing a fitting
  opportunity to recognize the organization for its myriad
  contributions to the community; and
         WHEREAS, HADC traces its origins to November 16, 1923, when
  the Owl Delphian chapter was founded with a membership of
  approximately 35 women; an additional chapter, Theta Delphian, was
  created, and by the end of 1924, four Delphian chapters existed in
  Houston; dedicated to helping women earn degrees from the
  University of Houston, which was then a junior college, the
  organization awarded its first scholarship in 1930; and
         WHEREAS, The Delphian scholarship program went on to
  experience tremendous growth, and in 1957, the annual Delphian
  Scholarship Ball was established as the major source of funds for
  grants and scholarships; in 2014, the Delphian Endowment
  Scholarship was put into place at the University of Houston; today,
  HADC is composed of 10 chapters, and the organization's members
  remain committed to intellectual enrichment, social enhancement,
  and philanthropic endeavors; HADC continues to award scholarships
  to students at UH and the University of Houston-Downtown, and to
  date, it has given more than $1.5 million in financial assistance to
  Delphian Scholars; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Houston Assembly of
  Delphian Chapters has made an untold impact in the lives of many
  women in the Greater Houston area, and it is a pleasure to join in
  commemorating this special milestone in the organization's
  history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Houston Assembly of Delphian Chapters
  on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and extend to all those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued
  success with their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for HADC as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
  of Representatives.
