R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
|
passing of Frank Edward Barker of Corpus Christi on November 19, |
|
|
2020, at the age of 82; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Frank and Eleanor Carpenter Barker, Ed |
|
|
Barker was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 7, 1938; he |
|
|
graduated from The Webb School, received an English degree from the |
|
|
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and continued his education |
|
|
at the University of Cincinnati College of Law; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After receiving his law degree in 1964, Mr. Barker |
|
|
practiced in Chattanooga; he then joined the U.S. Army as a member |
|
|
of the Judge Advocate General Corps; a recipient of the Army |
|
|
Commendation Medal, he served at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi |
|
|
in the capacity of command judge advocate, and he concluded his |
|
|
military tenure at the rank of captain; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Barker went on to embark on a legal career in |
|
|
Corpus Christi that would span more than half a century; a highly |
|
|
regarded attorney who gained national recognition, he worked for |
|
|
many years alongside Todd A. Hunter, who is currently serving in the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives; renowned for his skill in the |
|
|
courtroom, Mr. Barker garnered the highest peer rating standard for |
|
|
attorneys from Martindale-Hubbell, and he built lasting |
|
|
relationships with his colleagues; moreover, he was engaged in his |
|
|
community, lending his support to a number of charitable |
|
|
organizations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Barker enjoyed the love |
|
|
and support of his wife, Rene, and he took great pride in his three |
|
|
children, Courtney, Erin, and Scot, and his eight grandchildren; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ed Barker lived a life that was rich in personal and |
|
|
professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
|
|
inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Edward Barker |
|
|
and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
|
wife, Rene Barker; to his brother, William "Muecke" Barker, and his |
|
|
wife, Cathy; to his children, Courtney Schultz and her husband, |
|
|
Ron, Erin Burnam and her husband, Trip, and Scot Barker and his |
|
|
wife, Ricki; to his grandchildren, Will, Anna, and Hayley Schultz, |
|
|
Cole and Thomas Burnam, and Skylar, Eleanor, and Bowman Barker; and |
|
|
to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ed Barker. |
