R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Rudolph Martinez Jr. of Rio Grande City on May 1, 2022,
  at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Rodolfo and Inez Martinez, Rudy Martinez
  was born in Corpus Christi on December 15, 1938, and he grew up with
  a brother, Roland; following his high school graduation, he served
  in the U.S. Army before returning to Corpus Christi to attend Del
  Mar College; he continued his studies at the University of Oklahoma
  and the University of Corpus Christi, and he later earned a master's
  degree in music from Texas A&I University; during college, he
  toured with several Tejano bands; and
         WHEREAS, In 1979, Mr. Martinez moved to Rio Grande City,
  embarking on a fulfilling career at Grulla Middle School, where he
  served as a music teacher and as band director; he established a
  legacy of success at the helm of the band program, guiding his
  students to numerous University Interscholastic League Sweepstakes
  awards and to a top 10 state finalist showing in the Texas Music
  Educators Association Honor Band competition; he retired in 2003,
  concluding an exceptional tenure of 24 years; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez shared a rewarding marriage with his
  wife, Maria Cristina, that spanned nearly a quarter century; he
  also enjoyed the affection of a large extended family, including
  his beloved nieces and nephews; and
         WHEREAS, Rudy Martinez possessed a generosity of spirit that
  expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of
  countless people with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Rudolph
  Martinez Jr. and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his
  passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rudy
  Martinez.
