A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the authority of certain independent school districts |
|
|
to change the date of the general election for officers. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 41.0052, Election Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) The governing body of an independent school district |
|
|
that holds its general election for officers on a date other than |
|
|
the November uniform election date may change the date on which it |
|
|
holds its general election for officers to the November uniform |
|
|
election date. This subsection applies only to a county that |
|
|
borders the United Mexican States and that has a population of at |
|
|
least 450,000 and not more than 870,000. This subsection expires |
|
|
January 1, 2029. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
