A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study on the impact of illegal immigration in this |
|
|
state. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 411.02091 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 411.02091. IMMIGRATION IMPACT STUDY. (a) The |
|
|
department shall conduct an annual study on the environmental, |
|
|
safety, and community impact of illegal immigration in this state, |
|
|
including any impact to the Texas electric grid. |
|
|
(b) The department may collaborate or contract with a state |
|
|
or federal agency, a political subdivision, an institution of |
|
|
higher education, or a nonprofit organization or other private |
|
|
entity to assist in conducting the study required by this section. |
|
|
(c) Not later than September 1 of each year, the department |
|
|
shall prepare and submit a report to the governor, lieutenant |
|
|
governor, and legislature containing the results of the study |
|
|
conducted under this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
