A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the approval of equivalent educational programs for |
|
persons whose driver's license is suspended following conviction of |
|
certain drug offenses. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 521.376, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to read as |
|
follows: |
|
(b) The Department of State Health Services: |
|
(1) shall monitor, coordinate, and provide training |
|
to residential treatment facilities described by Section |
|
521.374(a)(2)(C) [521.374(a)(2)] providing equivalent education; |
|
and |
|
(2) shall administer the approval of the equivalent |
|
education provided in a [residential treatment] facility described |
|
by Section 521.374(a)(2)(A) or (B). |
|
(c) The Texas Department of Criminal Justice or a community |
|
supervision and corrections department established under Chapter |
|
76, Government Code, operating an equivalent educational program in |
|
a facility described by Section 521.374(a)(2)(A) or (B), as |
|
applicable, shall submit information regarding the program to the |
|
Department of State Health Services for approval under this |
|
subchapter. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
