A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to consideration of certain students who are dependents of |
|
|
members of the United States military for purposes of a school |
|
|
district's dropout records. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 39.308, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (f) to read as follows: |
|
|
(f) As part of the audit of school district dropout records |
|
|
under Subsection (a), the commissioner shall determine whether the |
|
|
district's dropout records include any student who is a dependent |
|
|
of a member of the United States military and who transferred out of |
|
|
the school district and enrolled in another district in this state |
|
|
without notifying the school district. The commissioner shall |
|
|
exclude any student described by this subsection for purposes of |
|
|
evaluating dropout and completion rates for the district. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
