SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3

In Memory |

of |

Sid Stafford |
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |
|
the passing of Sid Stafford of Hallsville on November 2, 2022, at |
|
the age of 103; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sid Stafford was born to Mae Marie and William |
|
Robert Stafford on July 30, 1919, in Madill, Oklahoma, and grew |
|
up with two siblings, Ruby and Junior; coming of age during World |
|
War II, this courageous American joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and |
|
served in North Africa and Italy as a mechanic with the 755th Tank |
|
Battalion; and |
|
WHEREAS, On June 4, 1951, Mr. Stafford married the love of |
|
his life, the former Nita Waldron; the couple made their home in |
|
Raymondville, Texas, where Mr. Stafford raised a variety of |
|
crops, including cotton and grain, before they settled in |
|
Hallsville in 1964; Mr. Stafford went on to enjoy a career with |
|
the Jordan Employment Service in Longview until his retirement at |
|
age 62; in his leisure hours, he continued his horticultural |
|
pursuits, maintaining an expansive garden; a man of faith, he was |
|
an active congregant of First Baptist Church of Hallsville, where |
|
he served as a deacon and as Sunday school superintendent; and |
|
WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Stafford |
|
and his wife shared a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly |
|
seven decades before her passing; he took great pride in their |
|
three daughters, Beverly, Brenda, and Beth, and with the passing |
|
years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include |
|
eight grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Miranda, Thomas, Charity, |
|
Rachel, Caleb, and Chad, and numerous great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for his unfailing optimism, warm and |
|
generous nature, and keen sense of humor, Sid Stafford touched |
|
countless lives during his journey on this earth, and he will |
|
forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sid Stafford and |
|
that sincere condolences be extended to his loved ones; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Sid Stafford. |
